It is no secret that I am in love with the natural world and am a keen conservationist. I believe in order to make a real difference in conservation we need to find alternatives. It would be no good heading out to the rainforest and demanding no more trees be cut down. At the end of the day this is a family’s livelihood if we did that how would they survive?

There are lots of celebrities out there all doing their bit for conservation but today I want to tell you about one that has really caught my attention. Model and environmentalist Lily Cole has designed her very own jewellery range using  sustainable Amazonian rubber.

Couture Headpieces by Swedish Designer Orjan Jakobsson

I have a feeling you are going to fall head over heels in love with these headpieces from Swedish designer Orjan Jakobsson founder of Parant Parant. ‘Inspired by all things beautiful, Orjan takes inspiration from old furniture, and fabrics with a special love for lace and crocheted fabrics. Many of these creations have been made from recycled or second hand fabrics found at flea markets as Orjan loves the idea of taking something old and turning it into something beautiful.

The night before Jane’s wedding to Mr Rochester in Charlotte Bronte’s ‘Jane Eyre’, Jane’s wedding veil iory s ‘rent in two parts’ and flung on the floor and trampled on by the insane Bertha. Jane states, “….there, on the carpet I saw the veil, torn from top to bottom in two halves”. The passage goes on to read: ‘I felt Mr Rochester start and shudder; he hastily flung his arms round me. “Thank God!” he exclaimed, “that if anything malignant did come near you last night, it was only the veil that was harmed”. Thus we are introduced to the concept of evil intent and the protective association of the wedding veil.
