Is Social Media Making Your Wedding Day Less Private?

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning

It’s not often that we accept guest posts but when this one dropped into our inbox we could’t resist posting it because we feel it’s such an interesting topic! With the rise of social media and almost everyone owning iphones or smart phones it’s easy to see how times have changed…

Social Media

‘It’s fair to say that social media sites have had a massive impact on our lives. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest have connected us to friends, relatives and strangers wherever they are in the world, allowing us to talk about whatever is on our mind, any time of day.

But all this online networking does have its drawbacks. Everyone knows a story about a job interview that never happened because bosses did not like what they saw on Twitter, or a tale to tell about embarrassing photos on Facebook that come back to haunt in new relationships.

And for couples about to tie the knot social media can also be a minefield of dos and absolutely do not’s.

We are so in love with the idea of brides creating the wedding dress of their dreams from scratch, however for some the idea is so overwhelming that it almost seems impossible. We chatted with Rebecca Lowe a fashion and design student who hopes to one day design her own wedding gown collection and run her own specialist wedding boutique, she also works for Samara James helping people find the perfect diamond engagement ring for their loved ones.

♥  ♥  ♥

If you are getting married in the next year or two you will have many parts of the wedding to research and organise. This can be a very busy and frantic time and you will feel an enormous pressure to get things right and make the day as special as possible. Both the Bride and Groom will have specific ideas’ about what they want to happen on their wedding day and there will be lots of discussions and compromising from them both where guest lists, bridesmaids and venues are concerned.

Bespoke Brides Guide to Seating Your Wedding Guests.

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning

If you have opted to create a seating plan, then you are currently learning just how difficult they can be to put together. For a huge majority of people, deciding on where to seat your guests will take up a huge amount of time and energy and can suck the life right out of you.

I’m not saying this will be the case for everyone, I’m hoping that most of you will be lucky enough to have families and friends that actually like each other, but many will have guests attending their wedding that may have rather delicate or explosive relationships with one another.

Sophie’s Story: Why Running Away May Not be the Answer…

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning

Good afternoon Dolls. So today we have something very exciting to share with you. We would like to introduce you to Sophie, our Real Bride. With only 5 weeks to go until she gets married she will be discussing with us her own thoughts and experiences with planning a wedding. So let me hand you over to Sophie… please be sure to give her a big warm welcome.

Sophie Profile

As I sit in my dining room, “thinking at 1am I should probably be in bed!”, I look around the room at all the mess in front of me, the remainder of the evening invites, table decorations, flower headdresses, table plans, favours ….the list is endless.

I feel that raising panic, the cold sweat feeling AGAIN, ‘Ahhhhhhhhhh!! Why didn’t we just run away’? Is this all worth it?

In short, now with only a little over 1 month to go, I must say YES!

It’s OK to tell your Guests What to Wear to Your Wedding When…?

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning

Telling your guests what to wear to your wedding is generally very very very frowned upon in the wedding world… but we like to go against the grain here at Bespoke Bride and we would like to let you know that you can in fact tell yours guests what to wear… Well sometimes!

We have listed a number of scenarios where it is perfectly acceptable to let your guest know that there is a dress code:

You’re getting married Glasto style in a big muddy field – high heels and stilettos are  probably not a good idea, unless you like being a ‘stick in the mud’.

Appy Couple – The Fun & Simple Way to Make Your Own Wedding App & Website!

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning, Sponsored Posts, There's An App For That

LS_Gallery3 appy 1

If you are a regular visitor of Bespoke Bride then you might remember our feature on Appy Couple, which received great feedback from our Bespoke Brides. We featured their beta product last year, an easy and fun way to create a beautiful wedding app to share with guests. Since then, Appy Couple has been working hard to complete the entire digital suite, and now you can create your own mobile app, website, and coordinating emails! Oh and did we also mention you can now get matching print invites!

Appy couple

For those of you who don’t know them, let me introduce you to Appy Couple. You start at Appycouple.com, and pick from hundreds of designs (which you can change as many times as you want!). You curate all the information you’d like guests to have at their fingertips and when you’re ready, guests participate through your app and website. Not only does Appy provide a perfect backdrop for your pictures and stories, but you can also manage all the details of your wedding from one platform: RSVPs, meal preferences, registries, maps and directions, photo sharing and editing… you name it! One of the best things about Appy Couple is that when you build your app, a gorgeous wedding website is created automatically, so you don’t need to worry about leaving anyone out who doesn’t have a smart phone. And while this sounds complicated, you will look like a creative genius with absolutely no technical skills required!

So here are a few more reasons why you will be sure to fall in love with this ultra stylish app that promises to make you look good and keep you ultra organised:

  • YOU HAVE TOTAL CONTROL: Privacy settings galore. Be as private or as public as you want. Guests only see the events that they are invited to, so no one feels left out.  Turn sections on and off at any time, change details as often as you need, and let everyone know instantly
  • PHOTO EDITING: Edit your photos, add cool effects, make your images dreamy or just fun—direct on appycouple.com, or if you’re a bride you can edit images directly from your app as well
  • MULTI-PLATFORM: The app is now beautiful on every device (Android, iPhone 5, 4 or any number you choose). Wedding websites take the Appy style to guests without Smartphones—so everyone is included!
  • DESTINATION APPY: Use the travel section to share all the details ONCE: hotel deals, maps, directions, flight recommendations…guests now have everything they need at their fingertips.
  • DIGITAL KEEPSAKE: Everyone can now capture every moment with the new point-and-shoot feature on the app on iPhone and Android. Save champagne toasts and stories, streaming it all on the wedding day (or watch it on the honeymoon!).
  • ONE TIME PRICE: all inclusive, one-time price for couples to create their digital suite, downloading the app is free, with no hidden charges or extras.

Appy Couple has been kind enough to offer a special promo code to our readers. Use APPYBESPOKE15 to receive a 33% discount. Because they are at pre-launch pricing, this code is only good for the next 48 hours. So try it now before pricing goes up!

Much Bespoke Love

Gifts For The Unique Bride At Wedding Republic…

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning

wr-logo-transparent

We rarely talk about gift registry here, mainly because we have struggled to find a registry that we think is suitable for our bespoke brides. It’s a rather delicate subject area because let’s face it no one likes asking for gifts or turning them down even if it’s something they don’t want, and then there’s the whole asking for money saga – gift registry is something of a minefield.

So let’s say you do decide to register on a gift registry website, which do you sign up to? How do you make sure you don’t receive that same toaster twice? How do you ask for money? Well we have the answer with Wedding Republic. The online registry that allows you set up your very own customizable wedding registry, full of gifts that that you want. You can add anything; from anywhere and it doesn’t even have to be from the internet. You can ask for cash to put towards your honeymoon, a deposit on a house or even ask for cash to be put to a charity of your choice.

What Does the Future Hold for Wedding Fairs & Exhibitions? – Introducing The Online Wedding Show!

Written by , Posted in Advice & Planning, In The News!

This is probably the most nerve wracking post we will ever have to write…

Those of you in the wedding industry awoke to the news this morning that the Designer Wedding show has sadly had to suspend trading and file for insolvency. In turn this has meant that the show, due to be held in February at Battersea Park in London ,has been cancelled leaving those suppliers that were due to exhibit – (many of which are small businesses with limited budgets) left out of pocket. The lovely Annabel from Love My Dress was the first to express her sadness at the news ,adding that over the years she has loved attending the event reporting on exciting new talents and trends to watch out for.

The Designer Wedding Show has been an institution, so it is devastating to think of all those that will now lose out, not only with money,  but with the time that went into organising and preparing for this event. Many used The Designer Wedding Show, in particular, as their platform to launch new products and services, and as Annabel mentioned, there is now a huge question mark over the future of the traditional wedding fair format.

It has become clear to us through  working on Bespoke Bride, that smaller fairs, many of which we attend and exhibit at ,such as the Designer Vintage Bridal Show and The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza ,are adding a personal and unique twist on the traditional wedding fair. Not only that, the online market place such as Etsy and Not on the High Street have had a massive impact on the way couples now shop for their wedding, and as we have seen our own blog grow so rapidly over the past year, it is obvious that blogs have an influential role as well.

So now would seem as better time than any to introduce you to something we have kept under wraps and have been working on for some time…

The Online Wedding Show… Created specifically for those who want to create a wedding day full of personality and passion, with products and services that are unique and alternative, in other words a truly Bespoke Wedding. What makes this show special is that exhibitors will be there for brides and grooms to connect with and explore from anywhere and at anytime, all from the comfort of their own home.  As well as that, independent and unique wedding businesses will be able to receive the recognition that they deserve from brides and grooms all over.
