A Beautiful Beachside Wedding in Costa Rica: Ashley & Joey
Ashley and Joey held their destination wedding on the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica, surrounded by their closest family and friends. After getting engaged there a year prior the couple thought it would be the perfect place to get married as it represented the very things they hold so dearly adventure, peace, love and positivity.
I asked Ashley to tell us more…
Be prepared for some pretty breathtaking photography guys!
“To us our wedding needed to be an event that reflected who we are and more importantly, illustrated how much it meant that each and everyone of our guests was there for this important occasion. We aren’t religious and also don’t have families that (thankfully) have imposed specific traditions or expectations of what our wedding needed to be. We wanted to create an experience for our guests to celebrate how they have contributed to our lives and to show how thankful we are.
Joey and I traveled to Malpais, Costa Rica a year prior, where we stayed at lovely boutique hotel called Casa Chameleon. It was there that Joey proposed after a day of hiking. We fell in love with the country. Costa Rica brings us a sense of peace and adventure all at once; it is truly the loveliest place that we have been so it was the perfect place to get married.
I am obsessed with details and auras so I enjoyed every minute of planning our wedding including time spent selecting fabrics, tea lights, candles and basically designing the flow for the week. One of my favourite things about our wedding was that their wasn’t just one special moment, instead we had 5 glorious days to freeze time and enjoy the most important people in our lives! Malpais Green Weddings did a wonderful job helping me select a band and the flowers that would be best based on the time of year. The bouquet and arrangements they created were truly beautiful.
We decided to have our tables under the stars. It had been months since it last rained and right before the main course was served a rain storm began! It was during Joey’s sister’s toast that everyone bolted for the yoga pavilion at Casa Capitan. Once to the pavilion we all gathered around Juliana to hear her lovely toast. The band began playing acoustic and everyone started dancing. In that time Malpais Green Weddings, or as I call, the “graceful ninjas” set up everything inside and the amazing team at Soma completed the main course on the gas stove, so the guests were able to head inside. The band continued by acoustic as more speeches were given.
My advice for other couples planning their wedding would be to find ways to have your personality and love for your family and friends present in all aspects- emotions can get charged, but at the end of the day, everyone just truly wants to be a part of the day, and feel that they have been a strong part of who you are. The way that all of our guests just rolled with the unexpected events made it truly unique. We love adventure, making the best of everything, and being with people we love! It couldn’t have been a better night.”

What a wonderful way to celebrate your wedding day, Costa Rica looks absolutely beautiful and I can see why Ashley and Joey chose this as the perfect destination for their wedding.
I’m curious what country do you think would best represent you? I think mine would be New Zealand, I love to be outdoors, going on adventures and going on quests to discover the local wildlife.
Much Bespoke Love

This is so beautiful, especially when she talked about the reason for the location choice…just perfect! Congrats to the darling couple.
Such a fabulous venue and theme, the table settings look magical and it seems like such a relaxed and comforting wedding.
