DIY Festival Feather Headdress
I bought a feather headdress at Glastonbury last year and ever since have wanted to create my own one in a different style! So if you’re feeling the festival vibe like I am then look no further my friend because today’s DIY is absolutely perfect for the free spirit! Here’s what you’ll need…
// 7 – 8 large, long white feathers // A collection of small feathers in the colours of your choice (we decided on pink and purple) // White lace // Elastic // Scissors // Sewing needle // White thread // All purpose glue //
STEP 1: Measure your elastic to fit comfortably around your head then pop a pin in place so you know where you need to sew.
STEP 2: Cut a strip of your lace thicker and a few centimetres longer than your elastic.
STEP 3: Sew your lace to your elastic, then trim your lace down to the same width as it.
STEP 4: Cut the ends of your feathers off so that you’ll only be able to see the feather strands at the very bottom of your headdress.
STEP 5: Get ready to stick your feathers on! Simply dap your all purpose glue onto your band and hold your feathers in place until the glue has set.
STEP 6: Repeat until all of your feathers are in place!
STEP 7: Next take a small feather, add a dab of glue to the end and place it in to set on top of one of the white feathers.
STEP 8: Continue until all of your small feathers are arranged nicely in the front!
OPTIONAL STEP: Depending on how sensitive your head is you may want to sew another piece of fabric or foam on the inside of your head band to stop the feathers putting pressure on to your head. I would definitely recommend this if you plan on wearing your headdress all day.
Finally, wear your headdress with pride! This would be just oh so beautiful for all the festival brides out there!
