HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN DONUT WEDDING CAKE
If you’re as obsessed with Pinterest as I am then you would have seen the trend of the donut wedding cake cropping up in your feed so we thought it was about time we show you guys how you can make your own! I am SO IN LOVE with this idea and the great news is it’s something that you can easily create yourself if you’re on a budget! Shop around the supermarkets and find out where the best donuts are for you, we got these ones from Sainsbury’s and they were 24 donuts for £5! Total bargain! Here’s how easily you can do this…
YOU WILL NEED:
A cake stand // Enough donuts for your guests // Fresh flowers of your choice (we went with roses) //
STEP 1:
Create your first layer of donuts, filling out the cake stand as much as you can but being careful not to squash any donuts!
STEP 2:
Next add on your next layer on donuts, we found this looks best if you place them in between the placements of the layer below, i.e. making sure that donuts are not lined up with each other.
STEP 3:
Keep repeating this process addling less and less donuts each time so that eventually you end up with a sort of donut tower! AKA The donut wedding cake!! If you want to get really fancy you can add in extra cake stands on top of each other so that you have more and more tiers of donuts, it just depends on how many guests you need to cater for.
STEP 4:
Finally, all that’s left to do is decorate the stack! We used fresh roses for ours and simply slotted them into spaces where we saw fit, then added 3 final roses on the top! You don’t want to overdo the flowers or foliage too much as you want the donuts to be the main focus!
So what do you guys think?! Would you swap your wedding cake for the donut cake trend? Or maybe you could do both?! Donuts for dessert for the day guests and maybe serve cake in the evening? Either way, I’m a big fan of donuts so this new idea is a win in my eyes! xx
Perfect combo of tasty and elegant!
How big is your cake stand? How many donuts did you use?
My cake stand was 12 inches in diameter and I managed to pile 24 donuts onto it! I hope that helps 🙂
