YOU WILL NEED:

12 cupcakes (we used vanilla but you can use your favourite flavour!) // Buttercream icing // Fondant icing // Green food colouring // Crushed up biscuits (go for a digestive or ginger nut if you want a lighter ‘sand’ or Oreo if you want something that looks more like soil) // Piping bags and nozzles // Cocktail sticks // White sprinkles // Flower cutters //

FOR THE CACTUS CUPCAKES….

1. Bake 12 cupcakes in any flavour you like and leave to cool completely

2. Crumble up 3 of the cupcakes with your hands into a bowl and set aside

3. Take the 9 remaining cupcakes, and spread or pipe some buttercream on top (you don’t need too much)

4. Dip the iced cupcakes into the biscuit crumbs to make them look like they are covered in sand. Make sure you give them a good roll around in those crumbs to get all the edges.

5. In your bowl of cake crumbs, add a small amount of buttercream (about a teaspoon) and mix them together – use those hands, just make sure they’re clean! If you can easily roll the mixture into a ball in your hand and it keeps it shape then you’ve got enough buttercream. If your mix is still too dry, and a little more buttercream and repeat. Don’t be tempted to add loads at once – you need less than you might think.

6. Start rolling your mix into the rough shape you want your cactus to be. Most cacti will start off either as a ball, a flattened ball, or a stumpy sausage. Don’t make them too big – if you’re not sure then hold it against your cupcakes to check you’re happy with the size. When you’ve used up your mix put them on a baking sheet lined with greaseproof and put them in the fridge to harden.

MAKE THESE FUN EDIBLE GLITTER ICE CUBES!

DIY Glitter ICe Cubes Edible Fun Party Sparkle Drinks Cocktail Accessories_-6

Woo! Happy Friday guys! If you’re planning on having a beverage or two this evening or maybe you’re throwing a little party then why not make these fun edible glitter ice cubes?! They’re the perfect way to add that extra sparkle and glitz to any event! You can’t deny that they would be awesome for a hen / bachelorette party right?! Over to Holly from Club Crafted to share how to make them…

DIY Glitter ICe Cubes Edible Fun Party Sparkle Drinks Cocktail Accessories_-1

Hey there! I, Holly, am not afraid of glitter. While I try not to go overboard, I’m not afraid to make a mess and use it in my craft projects and even some of my baked goods. Edible glitter is the perfect topping for cakes, cake pops, chocolate candies and so much more to add color and sparkle. That’s when I thought, I just need a way to add glitter to my drinks now! Edible glitter ice cubes were the answer to adding some flair to any drink without changing the taste.

Because edible glitter is essentially pure sugar, simply be aware that, depending on the amount used, it may increase the sweetness of your drink. I used my favorite silicone gem mold to create the ice cubes and then added the sugar. When added to liquid, the edible glitter slowly melts and changes the color of the liquid, which creates a pretty effect when using multiple colors. Because the glitter dissolves in liquid, it’s important to wait to add the glitter until after the water has frozen into ice. Otherwise, you’ll have colored ice cubes that are no longer glittery.

YOU WILL NEED:

Filtered water // Ice tray or silicone mould // Edible glitter //

STEP 1:

Pour filtered water into an ice tray or silicone mold. Move to the freezer to solidify completely.

HEY GIRL! MAKE THESE CUTE CONVERSATION HEART CAKES FOR V-DAY!

DIY Conversation heart cakes for valentines day recipe

Happy Friday guys! I’m so excited to introduce you to one of our guest DIYers and a super cute conversation heart cake tutorial today! Since me and Emily aren’t the best at baking we felt it would be better if we handed you over to Holly from Club Crafted for this adorable tutorial just in time for Valentines Day….

Hi there! I, Holly, am really only into Valentine’s Day for the treats. Sorry boys, but dessert is still the way to my heart, and whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your girl gang or with your S.O., these fun conversation heart cakes are the perfect way to celebrate the day of love.

DIY Conversation heart cakes for valentines day recipe-2

Based on the classic conversation heart candies, these mini cakes can be customized with your favorite little sayings. Display them for a party, make them for your friends or make them for simply indulging on Valentine’s Day! Using any recipe you’d like with mini heart pans, spread pastel colored icing all over the cake and write words on them with red gel icing to create cakes that look just like the conversation hearts we all know and love. Here’s how to make them!

YOU WILL NEED:

Your favourite cake recipe* // Your favourite white frosting recipe // 4-inch heart springform pans // Cake level or knife // 6-inch cake boards // Gel food colouring // Angled spatula // Red gel icing //

*Note, a recipe for 24 cupcakes will make approximately 6 mini heart cakes.

STEP 1:

First, choose your flavor! I thought it was appropriate to make red velvet cake with a smooth cream cheese frosting for these themed cakes. You can use any combination as look as the frosting is light enough to be dyed a pastel color. Then, preheat your oven to the necessary setting, usually 350 degrees.

STEP 2:

Spray the heart springform pans with cooking spray and set aside. Prepare the cake batter according to the recipe instructions and divide the batter between the pans so that each is about ½ full. You may need to bake in batches depending upon how many cake pans you have.

DIY Conversation heart cakes for valentines day recipe-5

STEP 3:

Place the pans on top of a standard baking sheet. This makes them easier to move into and out of the oven. Baking times will vary according to the recipe. Bake for approximately the time of a batch of cupcakes and check often, increasing time as needed until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
