1. A moment of your wedding day you will never forget?
On May 31, 2024, I married my best friend. The day may have felt fleeting, but every moment was seamless, meaningful, and truly unforgettable. One of the most special parts of our wedding was saving our first look for the walk down the aisle. But before that, I surprised Jarod with three gifts to start his day:
- A watch, symbolizing that our love is timeless.
- A box of boudoir photos, adding a little playful romance before the big moment.
- And finally, the keys to a Ducati—because he is, quite literally, my ride or die.
As the ceremony began, the late afternoon sun cast the most breathtaking glow over our mountain venue. When I walked down the aisle, our eyes met for the first time that day. It was just the two of us in that moment—our love, our promise, our forever. I will cherish that feeling for the rest of my life.

2. One thing you wish you knew as a new bride? What advice would you give to future brides?
Budget wisely! I’ve never believed in regrets, and I truly think everything happens for a reason. But if I could give one piece of advice, it would be to focus on what truly matters to you and your partner. The day goes by in the blink of an eye, and it’s not about having the “best” or most extravagant details—it’s about celebrating your love with the people who mean the most to you. No one will remember the tiny material things, but they will remember the joy, the laughter, and the love. Plan a wedding that reflects your heart, and make sure it’s a budget you’re comfortable with.
3. A detail that made your wedding special/unique?
We wanted to bring in elements of my Vietnamese heritage, so we incorporated a traditional Lion Dance performance! It was a vibrant, high-energy celebration that added such a unique cultural touch to our wedding. Watching our guests enjoy the performance and feeling the energy in the room made it one of the most memorable moments of the night. We danced the night away, celebrating not just our love but our families, our traditions, and the journey that brought us together.

4. How did you know your dress was the one?
I tried on so many stunning gowns that day, but nothing compared to the Barbara! It had everything I was looking for—sheer elegance, a sultry front slit, a breathtaking low back, delicate floral appliqués, and a train that made my heart skip a beat. It was the perfect balance of sexy and sophisticated. To complete the look, I chose a raw-edge tulle veil from Galia Lahav in baby Loretta light blush, adding the softest, most romantic touch. The moment I put it on, I just knew—it was the one!
5. How did it feel when you put on your dress on the wedding day? What was everyone’s reaction?
Slipping into my gown on the morning of my wedding felt surreal. I felt confident, radiant, and incredibly blessed. It wasn’t just about the dress—it was the feeling of stepping into the next chapter of my life, wearing something that made me feel like the best version of myself. Seeing my loved ones’ reactions, the love and emotion in their eyes, made it even more special. It was a moment I will treasure forever.

6. Would you have done anything differently?
Not a single thing! Our wedding was perfect in every way, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
7. What was your favorite part of planning? What were you most looking forward to?
I love giving meaningful gifts, so my favorite part was surprising my husband with his ultimate dream gift—a Ducati! Seeing his reaction was priceless, and knowing I could give him something that represented both our love and our adventures together made it all the more special.

8. How did you meet your husband? How did he propose?
Jarod and I met in the summer of 2017 in Kansas City, and from the moment we met, we were inseparable. Over the years, we’ve built a beautiful life together, raising our three fur babies—Mia, Max, and Zeus. We’ve lived in three different states and are currently enjoying life in Colorado, spending our time outdoors and bonding over our love for sushi!
In October 2023, Jarod proposed in the most intimate, heartfelt way. He chose a quiet spot in a Kansas City park, just the two of us—until he surprised me again by having our immediate families waiting to celebrate with us afterward! It was the perfect blend of private and meaningful, and it meant the world to have our loved ones there to share in that moment.
9. How was your experience working with the Galia Lahav team?
Wearing a Galia Lahav gown has always been a dream of mine, so finding the perfect one was a magical experience. When I started dress shopping, Little White Dress Bridal Shop was at the top of my list, as they were the only boutique in town that carried GL. As fate would have it, just a few months later, Galia Lahav announced a trunk show at LWD—on the same weekend as my appointment! It was meant to be.

10. How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?
I tried on about 15 dresses—all in one day! But as soon as I put on the Barbara, I knew nothing else compared.
11. Anything else you’d like to share?
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, we celebrated our 7th anniversary.
On Friday, May 31, 2024, we celebrated forever.

All You Need To Know about a Vietnamese Wedding + Tips to Plan One
Alright, my lovelies, ten years, can you believe it? That’s how long I’ve been spilling the tea and dishing out the dirt on all things wedding here at Bespoke Bride. From whimsical garden parties to opulent ballroom affairs, I’ve seen it all. But there’s one type of celebration that consistently captivates me with its vibrant traditions and deep-rooted symbolism: the Vietnamese wedding. Oh, if only you could bottle the sheer joy and cultural richness that radiates from these events!
I remember attending my first Vietnamese wedding years ago. My friend, Lien, was getting married, and I, ever the curious cat, was determined to soak it all in. I thought I knew weddings, but this was a whole new level of beautiful complexity. It wasn’t just a party; it was a story, told through rituals and gestures that stretched back generations. The colors, the food, the heartfelt family moments—it was like stepping into a living, breathing tapestry. I learned so much that day, and it genuinely shifted my perspective on what a wedding can truly represent. It showed me how deeply intertwined culture and love can be.
Is a Vietnamese Wedding Right for You?
So, you’re thinking about incorporating a Vietnamese wedding ceremony into your big day? Bravo! It’s a truly magnificent choice, but it’s important to understand what you’re signing up for. This isn’t just about pretty dresses; it’s about embracing a rich cultural heritage. Are you ready for a multi-faceted celebration that might involve more than one outfit change, several heartfelt tea ceremonies, and perhaps even a playful “door game” or two?
On the one hand, choosing a Vietnamese wedding offers an unparalleled opportunity to honor your heritage (if you have Vietnamese roots, naturally!) or to simply immerse yourselves and your guests in an incredibly beautiful cultural experience. The symbolism woven into every thread of the áo dài (the traditional Vietnamese dress) and every sip of the tea during the lễ ăn hỏi (engagement ceremony) is profoundly moving. It’s a chance to go beyond the typical wedding script and create something truly memorable and deeply personal.
However, it’s not a walk in the park. The sheer number of customs can feel a bit overwhelming if you’re not prepared. Coordinating multiple outfits, understanding the specific roles of family members in each ceremony, and ensuring all traditions are respected requires meticulous planning and, frankly, a good dose of patience. If you’re a couple who thrives on simplicity and minimalism, a full-blown traditional Vietnamese wedding might feel like trying to fit a grand piano into a tiny studio apartment. But for those who cherish meaningful rituals and vibrant celebrations, it’s like discovering a secret garden filled with exquisite blooms.
What to Know Before Planning Your Vietnamese Wedding?
Before you dive headfirst into planning, let’s talk brass tacks. The typical Vietnamese wedding begins long before the actual big day with the lễ dạm ngõ, a casual meeting where the groom’s family visits the bride’s family to formally ask for her hand. Think of it as the preliminary round before the main event, setting the stage for the more formal engagement.
Then comes the lễ ăn hỏi, the engagement ceremony. This is a much grander affair, where the groom’s family brings an array of traditional gifts, beautifully presented in lacquered boxes, to the bride’s home. These gifts—betel leaves and areca nuts, fruits, cakes, and even roasted pig—symbolize prosperity and good fortune. This is where the real magic begins, and I’ve seen some absolutely stunning displays of these gifts. It’s like a visual feast, a vibrant tapestry of colors and textures. From my own experience, this is the first point where you truly grasp the generosity and communal spirit that defines Vietnamese culture. It’s not just about the gifts themselves, but the intention and respect behind each offering.
The wedding day itself often involves two key ceremonies: the đám hỏi (the procession from the groom’s house to the bride’s) and the đám cưới (the actual wedding ceremony and reception). The đám hỏi is such a joy to witness—the groom, along with his family and friends, parades to the bride’s house, often accompanied by traditional music. It’s a truly public declaration of intent, a jubilant march towards a shared future. And let me tell you, when the groom finally sees his bride, often in a breathtaking áo dài, it’s a moment that can bring tears to your eyes.
During the tea ceremony (part of the đám cưới), the couple serves tea to their elders as a sign of respect and gratitude. In return, the elders offer blessings and often, some truly lovely, heartfelt advice, along with lì xì (lucky money) in red envelopes. This is truly the heart of the Vietnamese wedding for me. It’s a beautiful, intimate exchange that reinforces family bonds and honors those who came before. It’s a bit like a grand, elegant relay race, where wisdom and good wishes are passed from one generation to the next.
When it comes to planning, communication is your secret weapon. Talk, talk, talk with your families! Seriously, they will be your best resource for understanding specific traditions and nuances that might vary from region to region. Don’t be afraid to ask a gazillion questions. Trust me, I’ve seen couples try to wing it, and it rarely ends well. A little humor can go a long way when navigating family expectations, too! Remember, you’re not just planning a party; you’re weaving two families and two histories together.
Tips to Plan Your Vietnamese Wedding:
- Embrace the Colors: Vietnamese weddings are rich with symbolism. Red, for prosperity and luck, and gold, for wealth, are dominant. Don’t shy away from these vibrant hues. They truly make the celebration pop!
- Factor in Multiple Outfits: The bride (and sometimes the groom) will likely have several outfit changes—from the traditional áo dài for the ceremonies to a Western-style gown for the reception. Plan your timeline accordingly.
- Consider a Wedding Planner with Cultural Expertise: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, a planner who understands Vietnamese wedding traditions can be an absolute lifesaver. They’ve seen it all and can help you navigate the complexities with grace.
- Food, Glorious Food: Vietnamese cuisine is a highlight! Ensure your caterer can deliver an authentic and delicious menu that will leave your guests raving. From spring rolls to pho, it’s a culinary journey.
- Gift Protocol: Be mindful of the gift-giving traditions, especially during the engagement ceremony. Research what’s expected and present it beautifully.
People Also Ask:
- What is the traditional attire for a Vietnamese wedding? The áo dài for the bride and often a traditional long-sleeved tunic for the groom.
- How long does a Vietnamese wedding typically last? The traditional ceremonies can take several hours, followed by a reception, often stretching into the evening.
- Are there specific superstitions for a Vietnamese wedding? Many! Such as avoiding black attire, or not having the bride and groom see each other before the official procession.
- What kind of music is played at a Vietnamese wedding? A mix of traditional Vietnamese folk music and modern pop, often with live entertainment.
Remember, darling, your Vietnamese wedding journey will be uniquely yours. It’s a beautiful dance between tradition and personal expression. Embrace the journey, and most importantly, enjoy every single moment of it!
