Jack Bunneys Suits…Started in the 50s…Still Rocking The Family Ethos Now!
What’s that you say? You’re looking for a unique and beautiful suit for your wedding? Well look no further my friend because I have the answer to all of your prayers! Meet Jack Bunneys. A family orientated business full of TO DIE FOR suits. But don’t just take my word for it, you can see for yourselves… We also caught up with Marc from Jack Bunneys to answer some of our burning questions about the biz!
Tell us about Jack Bunneys, how did it all begin and when?
Jack Bunneys has been a bespoke tailors since the 50’s, founded by Jack himself in 1958. Jack Bunneys was a well-known local larger-than-life personality and his shop was somewhat of a local landmark. In the early 80’s Jack retired. At that time he had no family to take over the business so two of the guys working at Jack Bunneys at the time got together and purchased the shop from him. They were Terry (my dad, who’s now retired) and Peter, who is still here. (along with his son Rob)
What are the aims of Jack Bunneys?
A few years ago (when my dad retired) we were at a crossroads with the business. We were either going to change our business model or move on without Jack Bunneys. We decided to have one last crack of the whip, but this time, we would commit all of energies to weddings. We had a very simple but big idea, we wanted to change the world of men’s formal hire forever. We wanted to change all the rules. We wrote a list of the things we thought were wrong with the hire industry and then set about thinking of ways we could change them. It was a liberating exercise, to do what ‘we’ wanted rather than what we thought the industry demanded. Fortunately for us this gamble paid off. There were enough people who agreed with us, that there was an alternative way. I am pretty sure we have now achieved the goal we set ourselves and have now changed the men’s formal hire industry forever but now there is a new challenge, to see how far we can push ourselves. Can we make innovate new products, create new services, and continue to be successful whilst all the while holding on to our small family business ethos, which made us successful in the first place? It is a challenge but one we are happy to meet together, as a family.
What makes Jack Bunneys different and why do they appeal to our readers?
I have always thought as Jack Bunneys as pretty unique. When I am asked here in the shop, what is the difference between Jack Bunneys and other wedding suit specialists. I always say: ‘We are a tailors who also hires’ as appose to a hire-shop that tailors. That may seem a minor distinction but to us it’s actually rather a big thing. We look at everything we do with our ‘tailors eye’, so we look at cloth, fit and style first and foremost. These things will therefore precede other normal wedding priorities such as matching colors etc. Although those ‘wedding-y’ things are very important, we cannot help ourselves, as tailors, to look at things from our own perspective as a point of priority. Thank fully for us, there are many brides and grooms who agree with our slightly unconventional approach.
Tell us about the new range, the style, the inspiration?
Our new ranges, products and images are in my opinion some of the best work we have ever done. Like most of our new ranges the designs evolve over a period of time. We had inspiration from all different sources, but in particular, this time around, it was very much from T.V. and Film. Films, like The Great Gatsby, have brought back certain traditional modes of dressing back into the main stream. The challenge is to turn these inspirations into actual outfits, which the men’s wedding party can actually wear! We attempted to pay homage to our favourite time-periods of men’s dress but also create wedding outfits (for the whole party). Which would give a timeless, sharp, dressed and above all tailored look.
Ooooh! We want to hear more!!
“Well we have a new colour in our ‘Bespoke/Hire’ Service…
In 2013 we invented a new idea in wedding suit hire. This was called ‘Bespoke/Hire’ The idea was simple, the groom had his suit ‘Made to Measure’ the rest of the party would then be able to hire a suit that was designed to compliment this suit perfectly! This service was always supposed to come in 3 colour ways but we decided to try out the 2 less risky colour ways first! So we chose the brown and the blue. Well now we have completed the range. We now have all three colours. This is our ‘Bespoke/Hire’ Service in Burgundy:
Double Breasted is Back!
Double-breasted suits are back! We are seeing them again in fashion magazines and the high street, our challenge was trying to fit this into our ‘Wedding Services’ well this is what we have come up with for our grooms. The central suits are ‘Made to Measure’ the suits either side are available to hire.
Dinner Suits are back too!
Dinner suits for weddings are also becoming increasingly popular. But how do you make your groom stand out if all the guests are wearing black tie too? Well here is the Jack Bunney solution! The central suit is ‘Made to Order’ here at Jack Bunneys, the suit either side is available to hire.”
See, I told you they were gorgeous didn’t I! You can thank me later….
I would have to say the Burgundy suits are my favourite…or the Dinner Suits! There’s something so nostalgic and beautiful about them, makes me think of Jack from the Titanic! What do you think? Leave me a comment and let me know which is your favourite too!
Much Bespoke Love
