A Valentines Day To Remember…
Call it too commercialised. Call it over priced. Call it an excuse for companies to charge higher prices for a day. Call it whatever you like but I LOVE VALENTINES DAY. So much so that I think it should be a public holiday! We get time off for good Friday and bank holiday Mondays and royal celebrations, all of which are supposed to be more important than dedicating an entire day to the one you love? If I had it my way valentines day would be seen so much differently!
Granted, it’s not about the cards or the flowers or the chocolates (although those are very nice!) it’s more about doing something sweet and thoughtful for the one you love. And of course you should do these things throughout the year too but this is the one day to go to town with it! And why not? Surely we care more about our other halves more than we care about what society says valentines day should be or whether or not it’s ‘cool’ to want to celebrate it.
Luckily for me, James feels the same. We’re both big romantics at heart and I’m so glad he always makes a big effort on v-day!
Last year, it was a surprise that we were going to London for the day, James had scouted out a few places around the big city where some of the best rom coms had been filmed! He gave me a quote as a clue and our first stop was the book shop from Notting Hill! I love notting hill, and now I love that book shop even more! We also stood outside the famous blue door from that film and gazed into Rosemead gardens that William and Anna famously broke into! ‘Whoopsy Daisy!’
Next stop was Bridget Jones’ flat, you know that sweet little place above the pub? It was so cute and luckily for us Borough market was right next door so we had a great time trying different foods and admiring all the market had to offer! Finally we headed to Portobello Road for a little bit of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks action, I have to say, I was blown away by this street! So many quirky and fabulous features, I was snapping away like a crazy person!
I was so sad when the day came to an end because it truly was one of the most thoughtful and fun dates I had been on! And I love that it was all for valentines day.
This year I’ve been given a home made menu of all the italian food I love to choose from and James is going to cook me a starter, main and pudding then we’re off on a mystery day trip somewhere tomorrow! I’m excited 🙂 and that’s how we should all feel today!
So I ask you, how are you going to be spending valentines day?? Do you feel the same as me about the special day? Or do you think it’s all too much? I’d love to hear what you think and hear your romantic v-day stories too!
Much bespoke love
