DIY BALLOON WALL BACKDROP FOR YOUR NYE PARTY!

diy-balloon-backdrop-new-years-eve-photo-booth-colourful-fun-decor-ideas-tutorial-17

WOOHOO New year’s eve is almost upon us and it’s time to get into that party feeling! (unless you are already of course from all the Christmas festivities!) If you’re going to be throwing your own party this year then why not make a fun balloon backdrop for your guests to take photos in front of? It will be a great talking point and doesn’t just have to be for new year’s eve! How ace would this look at a wedding?! You could even match the balloons to your theme!

The amazing Paula from The Giant Balloon Co sent us all of these gorgeous balloons to create this backdrop, we went for different shades of pinks, gold and whites and we love how it turned out! Here’s how to recreate the look…

diy-balloon-backdrop-new-years-eve-photo-booth-colourful-fun-decor-ideas-tutorial-10 diy-balloon-backdrop-new-years-eve-photo-booth-colourful-fun-decor-ideas-tutorial-8

YOU WILL NEED:

Normal sized balloons & small balloons in a variation of colours (We used around 50 on the wall and had about 30 on the floor) // Balloon pump // Strong tape (We used parcel tape) // Sellotape //

STEP 1:

Blow up all of your balloons using your pump so that you can see exactly what you have of each. We found it best to blow up the normal size balloons to full size and a medium size just so that we could fit them in the gaps easier and create a more interesting look with lots of different sizes.

STEP 2:

Start by taping a few of your biggest balloons to the wall, securing them in place on the ends of the balloons. Vary the colours as you build around each balloon.

STEP 3:

Keep going and filling in the gaps with your smallest balloons. We used sellotape to adhere these to the other balloons and keep them in place.

DIY CASCADING FLOWER BACKDROP

diy-floral-flower-backdrop-bright-colourful-altar-photobooth-cascading-modern-fun-wedding-10

If you came to the Handmade Fair last weekend then you would have seen our bright and bold cascading flower backdrop that we created especially for the show! We absolutely loved how it turned out and wanted to share how we made it with you because quite frankly…how freaking awesome would this backdrop be at a wedding?! Whether you use it behind the top table, your altar or for a photobooth backdrop it’ll be a sure pop of colour and look fab in your photos!

diy-floral-flower-backdrop-bright-colourful-altar-photobooth-cascading-modern-fun-wedding-6

Also, special thanks to Lexy from Tilly and the Buttons who very kindly modeled in front of the backdrop for us at the end of the weekend! What a babe!

YOU WILL NEED:

Card in a variation of colours (we had 14 different shades and colours in total and used around 450 pieces of card sized 12inches by 12 inches) // White yarn // A threading needle // A Cricut Machine // A pen //

Please note* Whenever we feature tutorials using the Cricut machine we always say that if you want to, you can cut items out by hand but I really really really wouldn’t recommend that for this tutorial because you will need around 4000 flowers in total!

diy-floral-flower-backdrop-bright-colourful-altar-photobooth-cascading-modern-fun-wedding-1

STEP 1:

Choose a simple flower design from the Cricut design space and size it to just under 4 inches wide, we then set the flowers to fill the mat meaning we fitted 9 flowers per sheet of card.

STEP 2:

Get the machine cutting! This is a tedious step because you are consistently loading card into the machine, then pulling your flowers off the mat and loading more card. I promise though it would be a lot more painful if you were cutting by hand!

diy-floral-flower-backdrop-bright-colourful-altar-photobooth-cascading-modern-fun-wedding-9

STEP 3:

Next we decided to create some smaller flowers to go on the bottom of the strings, just to make it look more realistic. We cut out around 500 of these sized 2 inches wide.

STEP 4:

Once you’ve got a room full of flowers and they’re all cut out, use a pen to fold the edges of the flowers over to create a more 3D shape.

A backdrop stand // A plain coloured backdrop  (we got ours for £25 online) // faux flowers // A selection of honeycomb balls // Double sided tape or a glue gun //

STEP 1:

Hang up your backdrop onto the backdrop stand and secure in place

STEP 2:

Start to either tape or glue your honeycomb balls to the backdrop, making sure they’re close together. I used double sided tape for this because I wanted to use the backdrop again but if you want it to be a little more secure then glue away!

Keep sticking your honeycomb balls around the edge of the backdrop.

DIY watercolour balloons flowers spring wedding inspiration easter pretty how to_-3

STEP 1:

Turn your balloons upside down and using your acrylic paint start to brush paint up the balloon making sure to stop around half way. I found that the paler the colour of acrylic the better so mix any colours with white if you need to!

STEP 2:

Repeat again using a different colour, stopping around the same place.
