THIS COUPLE PAIRED STORM TROOPERS WITH MERMAIDS FOR THE ULTIMATE UNIQUE WEDDING
Lara and Scott wanted to create a wedding day that was unequivocally theirs and boy oh boy did they pull it off! I mean it isn’t often you go to a wedding with the little mermaid and a storm trooper sat at the top table, metallic dinosaurs and a light up box with a swear word on it. They were married at Pennard House, just a short 10 minute drive from their house.
“The ease of having the ceremony, reception, wedding breakfast and party all in one place at Pennard house really won us over!” Began Lara.
“Our main concern on the day was fun, so keeping everyone in one location certainly lead to more drinking!” She laughed.
“When people asked what the theme was they got extremely frustrated that we didn’t have one.” Lara told us.
“We both just love colour, so went with that. We had influences from Indian weddings, festivals, the circus, fun craft ideas, and all of our favourite things, animals, films, sequins and plenty of glitter. It was a huge mix of everything we love and luckily when it was all together it worked.”
“Our photographers, John and Soph Barwood came highly recommended to us from Pennard House and we could not fault them at all, they are lovely people and put us both at ease all day. They felt like part of the wedding and were like guests to us.”
“Sausage and Pear our catering team, were also an amazing find, we searched for relaxed wedding food and found them. The catering felt relaxed, it was sharing boards and huge pots of paella, however their approach to the day was far from relaxed, nothing was too much for them and they took care with every single aspect. Even down to removing sauce from a canape for a couple of guests who asked.”
“Chestnut Productions our videographer was another lucky find. He slotted into the day so well and really got a sense of what was important to us. He found the humour in the day, but also all the careful cherish moments.”
“Funk Soul stars our band blew us and the guests away! The full Motown performance, our favourite music, was flawless! I wish I could watch them back again, the distracted me from our evening guests in the best way!”
“I could not fault any of our suppliers at all, they made our day and made it so easy for us to have fun without a care in the world. They kept up with the energy of day so well, even when all the guests were up dancing and singing before the starters came out!”
“We made almost all the decorations ourselves.” Lara added.
“I made all of the bridesmaid bouquets myself, and all of the table decorations, which there was a lot of! We went shopping for saree material and made tablecloths as we wanted to find the brightest/richest colours we could. Scott made the light boxes, which were a massive project but worked so well! I am quite crafty normally so we didn’t have to look for too many tutorials, but if we did Pinterest is where we started.”
“We knew the day was going to be so much fun for us, however we did worry a little about how everyone else would see it. We wanted it to be clear that the wedding was ours, and only could be ours, mainly because we don’t think anyone else would want a wedding anything like it! All of our guest came with open minds and hearts, their energy took the wedding to a level of fun we didn’t think we could get.”
“We honestly don’t think we would change a thing, we were relaxed in the build-up, and kept almost everything a secret, so it was a big surprise for everyone on the day. The only thing I would change would be to have more pictures with people on the day, I was aware I wanted to spend more of my day socializing but I wish I had been more mindful of never getting the opportunity to have pictures with certain people again. Although on the day, drinking and dancing was far more important!” She added.
” My best advice would be to enjoy your day! Don’t get caught in tradition if you feel there is no need for it, we didn’t it and it made the day exactly how we wanted it! Make every aspect of the wedding how you would like it, make it fun!”
