A Summer Dinner Party Vibe Wedding at Home
Annie, a teacher, was living in her hometown of San Jose at the time. Chris, a Marketer, was living in his hometown of Livermore. As any modern couple living a dating app success story would say, “She swiped right first, and the rest was history!”
Hosting Their Wedding at Home Helped Keep The Costs Down
As they began their planning journey during the pandemic, there was so much uncertainty that the idea of hosting their wedding on their family property grew more and more appealing. After all, it was a place that was near and dear to their hearts. They actually lived on the property at the time and spent countless evenings watching the sunset amongst the backdrop of the vineyards.
They decided to share that cozy ambiance with their guests and throw a summer dinner party vibe wedding ceremony and reception. Hosting their wedding at home also helped to keep the costs down, allowing them to put more of their budget toward other aspects of the planning process.
Keeping The Wedding Vendors Local
When it came to selecting vendors for their wedding, Annie and Chris knew they wanted to keep everything local. They love where they live and wanted to support the small businesses that make up their community. They found their photographer and wedding planner on Instagram, and then from there, they used recommendations from their wedding planner of vendors whom she had worked with many times and were also local to the Livermore area.
Tannya of Simply Lovely Events helped them design the perfect wedding that matched their dreams and made sure everything went smoothly on their big day. They started planning about eight months out and worked closely with Tannya leading up to their big day.
Bringing an Intimate, Bright, Travel-Inspired Wedding to Life
Together with a team of hand-selected local wedding pros, thanks to the help of Tannya, Annie and Chris brought their intimate, bright, travel-inspired wedding to life. They both love to take road trips together, so they incorporated an underlying road trip theme with their décor.
From their wedding invitations that read “now the adventure begins”, designed by Summit and Sage, to the mementos of their excursions on the tablescape, sweet nods to the adventure-loving couple were peppered in throughout the design. And we can’t not mention the adorable Airstream bar!
Photographer, Hannah Berglund shares, ‘This wedding was so much fun, since Tannya, the wedding planner, and the couple put a really beautiful emphasis on the personalized details and leaning into the warm summer dinner party vibe.
Making the Summer Air Flow From the Photos
Since the wedding was intimate, all of the guests knew each other (or knew of each other), and the joy of being together in such a breathtaking landscape was really vibrant. I took a candid photography approach to the wedding and really focused on grabbing photos that not only showed what it looked like to be there, but what it felt like.
I wanted the warm, summer air to flow from the photos and the viewer to get a sense of the community that sat at the dinner table together. I also wanted to play into the beautiful scenery and took advantage of the view of the vineyards.
Annie and Chris love to road trip, and love to take photos on wide, open roads, so naturally, we took advantage of their empty street and snapped a few portraits of them to play into the road trip theme.”
Annie’s BHLDN Wedding Dress
Annie stunned in her BHLDN dress while Chris donned a navy suit from Bonobos. Dyan Gibson of Aqua Hair Salon and Kim Baker got Annie’s wedding ready.
When it comes to handmade elements, something special Chris did to bring their vision to life is working with his dad to lay pavers together for the aisle. The result was a beautiful space for their guests to walk down on their way to the ceremony site, and one that will always remind them of this special day.
The Florals Enhanced The Natural Beauty of the Backdrop
Enchantment Floral enhanced the natural beauty of the backdrop with bright arrangements in reds, oranges, purples, pinks and light blue. Florals lined the aisle and adorned the altar with an asymmetrical installation on the arbor. The intimate estate table featured florals galore with greenery hanging above, intertwined with Edison lights.
On the Vine Catering got dinner started off with a Caprese salad. Since it was an intimate crowd, guests got to build their own burger, selecting either a Kobe beef or turkey burger and a number of gourmet toppings, spreads and cheeses. Dessert was a sweet, simple naked cake from BR Sweets. After Annie and Chris sipped and noshed with their closest loved ones, ACE Entertainment ensured everyone danced the night away.
Annie and Chris’s Advice to Couples
Finally, Annie and Chris’ advice to couples: “If you’re planning a wedding, don’t stress about whether or not it’s “big enough.” The most important thing is that you and your partner are happy with what you’re doing.
In fact, small weddings are really fun! They allow you to focus on the details that really matter: like what food you want to be served, or the ambiance you want for your guests. Make sure to do something unique and personal that reflects who you are as a couple—and where you came from—in addition to all of the other things people expect at weddings.
