Home DIY: How To Make An Ombre Yarn Bottle Vase!
I’ve got a nice and easy DIY for you lovelies today, and it’s one of my absolute favourites for adding some DIY decor to the home! The best part? You don’t need a lot of materials, and it’s perfect for any empty bottles that don’t have to go to waste! Don’t have a spare bottle? Better drink some wine asap! I wanted to create an ombre effect with my yarn but the sky is the limit here! You could go crazy and create a rainbow one, keep it simple with just one colour or mix a few shades like this one!
You will need:
♥ Yarn (preferably 4 different shades of 1 colour) ♥ An empty bottle ♥ Scissors ♥ Glue
Step 1: Remove the packaging from the bottle
Step 2: Add glue to the top part of the bottle, I applied it quite thoroughly to ensure that the yarn could be pulled quite tight and stick well!
Step 3: Start to wrap your yarn around the bottle
Step 4: continue to wrap the yarn until you are happy with the amount in that colour then apply more glue ready for the second coloured yarn!
Step 5: Start to wrap your second colour around the bottle
Step 6: Repeat with third colour
Step 7: Start to wrap around your forth and final colour piece of yarn
Step 8: Glue the final piece of yarn down & you’re done!
Step 9: Fill with some pretty flowers!
That was easy wasn’t it? And yet super cute I feel! Let me know how you get on if you make this, I’d love to see your creations!
More DIY Vase Ideas
Alright, my fellow magpies of matrimonial merriment! It’s your girl, Zara, back from Bespoke Bride HQ. Five glorious years I’ve been knee-deep in tulle, tantalized by tiaras, and yes, totally obsessed with table décor. And you know what truly elevates a tablescape from “nice” to “next-level”? The humble vase. But oh honey, we’re not talking boring glass cylinders today. Nope. We’re diving headfirst into a kaleidoscope of colorful DIY vase ideas that’ll make your guests gasp (in a good way, promise!).
Tired of Transparent? Let’s Talk Painted Pottery!
Ever eyed those chic, hand-painted ceramic vases in boutiques and then promptly choked on the price tag? Me too! Countless times. That’s when the lightbulb pinged: why not DIY it? Grab some plain terracotta pots – they’re usually pretty budget-friendly. Then, unleash your inner Picasso! Acrylic paints work wonders. Think bold geometric patterns, dreamy watercolor washes, or even quirky abstract designs.
What to know before you grab that brush? Well, terracotta is porous, like a thirsty sponge. So, sealing the inside is key if you plan on using real flowers and water. A simple craft sealant will do the trick. Now, the fun part: the design! I remember helping my cousin, Clara, with her bohemian wedding. She wanted mismatched painted pots in earthy tones. We spent a hilarious afternoon splattering paint (more on ourselves than the pots, if I’m being honest). The result? Utterly charming, unique centerpieces that felt so her.
Is painted pottery right for you? If you crave individuality and a touch of artistic flair, absolutely! The pros? It’s budget-friendly and completely customizable. The cons? It can get a little messy (wear old clothes!) and might not be the best option if you’re aiming for ultra-sleek uniformity. I say, embrace the beautiful imperfections! Source for acrylic paints and terracotta pots: your local craft store or even online marketplaces like Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/).
From Trash to Treasure: Upcycled Glass DIY Vase Magic!
Okay, let’s be real. We all have those empty jam jars, wine bottles, or even quirky-shaped sauce containers lurking in the recycling bin. Instead of tossing them, let’s give them a glamorous glow-up! This is where upcycling truly shines. Think twine-wrapped bottles for a rustic vibe, decoupaged jars with vintage paper scraps for a touch of whimsy, or even spray-painted bottles in metallic hues for a modern edge.
What to know before you raid your recycling? Cleanliness is paramount. Nobody wants a bouquet sitting in a sticky jam residue. A good soak in soapy water usually does the trick. For a recent styled shoot, we transformed old olive oil bottles with a few coats of matte black spray paint. The contrast with the vibrant blooms was simply stunning – a little bit edgy, a whole lot elegant. It felt like we’d conjured something expensive out of thin air!
Is upcycled glass for you? If you’re eco-conscious and love a touch of eclectic charm, then yes! The pros? It’s incredibly budget-friendly (practically free!) and sustainable. The cons? Achieving a perfectly uniform look across many pieces can be tricky. But hey, who needs perfect when you have personality? Check out Pinterest for endless upcycling inspiration.
Feeling Fancy? Gilded DIY Vase Glam!
Want to add a touch of opulent shimmer without breaking the bank? Gold leaf (or even gold spray paint for a more budget-friendly approach) can instantly elevate a plain DIY vase. Imagine a simple glass jar with delicate gold leaf accents catching the light – pure magic! You can apply it sparingly for a subtle touch or go all out for full-on gilded glory.
What to know before you go gold? Gold leaf can be a tad fiddly. It’s super thin and loves to stick to everything (including your fingers!). Patience is your best friend here. For a wedding I worked on last year, the bride wanted a touch of Art Deco glamour. We took simple geometric vases and added gold stripes using painter’s tape and gold spray paint. The result was sophisticated and surprisingly easy to achieve. It felt like we’d unlocked a secret to instant elegance.
Is gilded glam for you? If you dream of a touch of luxury and aren’t afraid of a little meticulous work, go for it! The pros? It adds instant elegance and a high-end feel. The cons? Gold leaf can be a bit pricey, and application requires a steady hand. You can find gold leaf and metallic sprays at most art supply stores. Blick Art Materials (https://www.dickblick.com/) is a great online resource.
So, there you have it, my dears! A peek into the wonderful world of colorful DIY vase creations. Remember, your wedding décor should reflect you. Don’t be afraid to get your hands a little messy and let your creativity bloom!
