ZAP! BANG! POW! HOW TO ROCK SUPER HERO STYLE AT YOUR WEDDING
Everybody wants to be a superhero right?… Maybe it’s just me then?
Well what if you could be a superhero for just one day? Ok so you might not actually be one, but you could certainly have a day spent pretending and what better day to do that on, than you wedding day! To celebrate the release of Captain America Civil War and a summer packed with more Marvel releases than you can shake a stick at, we are having a bit of a superhero themed week (check out this cute comic book engagement!) and to top it off we just had to share this super hero styled wedding shoot with you! Filled with tons of doable ideas for your own wedding, this is every comic book fan’s dream come true!
We asked the Coocouturiers to tell us a bit more about their ideas for the shoot and more importantly how you can apply them to your own wedding.
“The theme of this shoot evolved from the desire to do something in the ‘Geek Chic’ vein” began Gwenda, founder of The Vintage Floral Design Co.
“Through various twists and turns we landed on a ‘1960s superhero meets modern kickass bride’ idea!”
“After being given this theme I was ‘super’ excited to be able to tap into my inner superhero and have a valid excuse to watch everything from the original Wonder Woman to the newest Marvel hero movies like Iron Man etc” Karen of Karen Dornellie added.
“I wanted to introduce some separates and use a bit of print to make it very different. The style has a 60s feel with the flared cropped trouser showing a flash of the POW print and a POWerful sexy corset with even more POW for the belt buckle and veil topper. The most exciting pieces to make were the gauntlets and of course in homage to Linda Carter the original and best Wonder Woman, a POW ZAP BAM tiara!!!! Thank goodness we can all sleep safe now we have Super Brides to protect us!”
In charge of creating shoes fit for the most powerful woman in the world was of course Marsha of Marsha Hall Handmade Shoes and she certainly didn’t disappoint!
“I absolutely loved this theme and got completely carried away.” She told us.
“I couldn’t help myself making boots and shoes in order to show suggestions for different looks. My inspiration (being female) was naturally …….Wonder Woman! Taking styling from the original red and white knee high boots for the toe shape and lower heel height, but making them original with yellow suede and white patent design detailing. To add that bridal feel the boots were laced all the way up the back with white ribbon. For the shoes, I kept to the original colour scheme of the Wonder Woman boots with red suede, and added a white patent stripe to emulate the shape of the upper of the shoe at the front, along with a sixties inspired pointed toe. A narrow high heel covered in the dramatic red suede creates a more modern feel and I couldn’t resist making some ‘girl power’ detachable ankle cuffs that can be added for a more dramatic look. Made in the same fabric that was used in the amazing outfit.”
And what about that bold hair & makeup? Makeup artist Anneke, explained her inspiration.
“Sexy Sixties Superheros have big bouffants and graphic eyes. I went with bright yellow eye shadow and bold black liner – inspired by Pop Art. The big Beehive makes a statement of power and presence – but is also translatable into an alluring wedding hairstyle when softened.”
The square cake was very much in tune with the theme, decorated with old comic book pages and matching ribbon and of course, the final touch, a super cool origami cake topper created by The Origami Boutique. This theme followed with artificial blooms in key colours of blue, white, yellow, green and orange for the bouquet and table displays.
“The invites were inspired by vintage marvel comic artworks and the geeky doodles everyone does at school.” Lou of Beyond Vintage told us. “A basic ink print with a vintage comic book belly band. The envelope was hand made from vintage comic book wallpaper with coordinating address label to tie everything together.”
Don’t forget to check the video from Skinny Boy Films! It actually feels like you are reading a comic book!
