THIS BRIDE LOOKED LIKE A REAL LIFE CINDERELLA IN A PINK VERA WANG WEDDING GOWN
It took only a matter of minutes for love to blossom between John and Melissa. Twenty Two years later they celebrated their anniversary with a fairy tale wedding for the ages.
This is their love story…
Melissa and John had many hobbies but it was their mutual love of deep sea fishing that led them to spend a myriad of hours cruising and fishing in the Caribbean waters. John had bought a large fishing yacht which he naturally christened ‘The Melissa’. One of the first marine adventures the couple embarked on was a trip to Harbour Island in the Bahamas. It was “Love at first Docking”. The island offered fantastic fishing for John and a three mile long, pink sand beach for Melissa, where you could even ride horses. The island was a match made in island heaven.
Twenty one years after their first meeting, John flew Melissa down to the island on his own private plane. He made a reservation at their favourite restaurant where he got down on one knee and proposed. Soon, Melissa and John were making weddings plans, earmarking the the date for exactly one year from that fateful day, at the only place it could be – Harbour Island.
The venue was an obvious one but not readily apparent. There was a place on the island called Ocean View Club and for some unknown reason the lovebirds had never been there. It was only months prior to their engagement while reading an article in a travel magazine that they discovered it. After taking a tour of the venue the contracts were signed and the date was set. They would be married a year later come hurricane or high water. Beach chic! Island charm!… How to describe a place with such a feel.
It wasn’t long until Melissa was on the search for her own wedding dress. She left Barney’s weeks later with a gown that seemed perfect for the moment, only to decide later that the metallic shine would wear off. It was a magazine photograph that was the inspiration for her next choice and she had arranged to have it delivered for the next day. Lo and behold! It may have been a wow in the picture but not a wow on her petite frame. Could Vera Wang be the next stop? Champagne was served and only a few hours later, two dresses were purchased. Let the seamstresses begin!
But wait! Melissa was looking for a spark of magic that only a pink gown could provide. Cinderella may have worn blue to her ball but her first choice was a deconstructed pink creation of her own. It was exactly the inspiration she needed, found, custom made and altered at Vera Wang. She would walk down the aisle to the theme song from Cinderella, ‘Strong’.
Once the colour of the dress was decided, Melissa decided to match the colour on her Save the Dates and Wedding invitations. She had pink vases for the flowers, pink fish place cards and knot rope candle holders a nod to John’s love of the sea and fishing. No ordinary guest book would do. A blank canvas was was placed on an easel for the guests to record their wishes for the happy couple.
The couple provided guests with welcome bags containing crisps, truffles and custom made water bottles to keep guests well hydrated and an emergency kit to help and heal.
The wedding day really was ‘An Affair to Remember’ and a ‘Fairy Tale’ come true.
