HOW TO STYLE A MOROCCAN BEACH BOHO WEDDING
In case your new around here, we love to share how easy it is to create a wedding day that is completely unique to you. We love nothing more than to share our DIY’s and inspire you with our brides’ real life weddings, but when it comes to styled shoots, we are always asked…
‘How can we recreate the looks that are featured in your styled shoots?’.
Sound familiar?
Well we kind of felt the same way? We knew how much you guys love to take inspiration from the awesome shoots that we shared but we also knew just sharing images wasn’t as helpful as it could have been.
We are always trying to think of ways to make all our posts useful to you, which is why from now on, we will be sharing our tips and advice on how to ‘get the look’ whenever we feature a styled shoot.
So, today we are going to start with our 5 simple tips for styling one of our favourite wedding trends – boho! It’s not surprising that bohemian style has become a popular theme for weddings. It is incredibly versatile and can be incorporated in many ways, whether your looking to create a theme that’s vibrant and bold or more natural and chill, boho style can be made to work for you. For today’s post however, we chose to go with lots of colour, because #whynot?
FIRST UP, CHOOSE BOLD COLOURS…
It might sound scary but when creating a colourful bohemian theme, you can never have too much! Is anyone else with me here!?
If you find yourself becoming a little overwhelmed at the thought of using ‘all the colours’, here is some advice on choosing a ‘colour scheme’
What are your favourite colours? It might sound super obvious but its usually a good place to start. If you’re currently trying to think of three of your favourite colours that go well together, STOP! Just pick the first three colours that come to mind, they don’t need to match!
I hear so many people say that don’t want to overdo it but trust me, with a Moroccan boho beach theme that just ain’t gonna happen!
Once you have chosen your core colours you can then go about adding touches of other colours elsewhere when and if the mood takes you.
Using colour is about giving yourself the freedom to choose whatever colour scheme you want without having to worry about whether everything matches – which if you ask me seems like a pretty stress-less way to pick a colour theme.
THEN, ADD TEXTURE
Adding different textures is an effective way to achieve that effortless bohemian style – You really can’g go wrong!
Try layering mismatched rugs, cushions and throws, use a runner to create a unique backdrop and add texture to your place settings by using mismatched plates and napkins in variety of colours and prints.
By layering just a few different materials and patterns your theme can quickly turn boho chic.
If you find yourself swamped with too many areas to style, focus on just one or two key locations, ideally those where your guests will spend a greater deal of time.
So, instead of trying to decorate everything, go deep in just one or two main areas, where your efforts will make the most impact. You could create a statement altar at the end of the aisle, which will be your guests main area of focus minutes before you make your entrance or use these tips to style your table decor, where guests can admire your displays whilst they eat, drink and get merry!
This means maximum impact on your guests and less work for you – bonus!
SEAT YOUR GUESTS ON THE FLOOR
No I haven’t gone crazy! Seriously! Use low tables, do away with chairs and use rugs and cushions as something for your guests to sit on!
Don’t worry you can still use normal table and chairs for eating off! This seating arrangement would probably be a little impractical for a full on sit down meal. However, it would make a great chill out area for your guests to sit and relax when they’re all danced out!
GO EXTRAVAGANT WITH FOLIAGE & FLORALS
Flowers and greenery are totally my thing! I am ALL ABOUT nature and this to me is authentic boho. Think thick garlands of green, dotted with brightly colored florals.
Have your florist be a little more free-spirited with their creations, go WILD and remember your bouquet isn’t the only place for flowers, add them to your hair, your altar, table decor and anywhere else that takes your fancy.
And of course if budget is an issue, concentrate on the main areas of focus as before.
ADD YOUR OWN TRINKETS
You might have noticed that bohemian style is very mismatched, which is great if like me, your not so keen on making sure everything matches.
And it’s not because I’m not good at it, I just rather the freedom to use all types of decorative items. You could use trinkets from home or go bargain hunting in charity shops for glassware in different colors, choose vintage bottles, copper vases, brass ornaments and quirky figurines.
The main thing to remember when creating your own Moroccan boho beach style is to get creative and let go of perfection!
